Ella's Hat

It's too hot and humid to do anything outside, so I managed to finish Ella's fruit cap today. Details for the cap are here. Ella is the 2 month old daughter of my brother Scott. Sure, she's no longer a newborn, but better late than never and it turned out very cute.

I got plenty of "help" trimming and securing the ends from Scooter.

A new use for an old bike

This is Fido's new ride. The trailer probably weighs 35 lbs. Fido is 75 lbs. and this bike has only 1 speed. We'll be moving slow, but we'll be moving - IF, while it is moving, I can get Fido to sit still. (I got him to sit in the trailer for about a second this morning.) Baby steps.

Summer stinks...

...but the produce is excellent.

Zinnias

It is so humid and hot this year. Upper 90's and humid is the forecast from now till, hopefully, September. It has been this way since the end of May. (Sure, we got lucky for Steve's party last week with a temperature of 86, but still.)

It's not a wonder that my weight goes up in the summer, since all I want to do is sit in the house, eat and drink icy beers. I have to force myself to get on a bike. (I did manage two short bike rides this weekend that I'm proud of.)

As for eating, that's going well. Especially since I was turned on to the Little Rock Local Food Club by Sarah at the Chainwheel. In So Cal, I could get to a farmer's market any day of the week, any time of the year. In Little Rock (and Birmingham, for that matter), it's Saturday morning. Between Fido, recovering from icy, Friday night beers and a bike ride, I never make it.

Now, I do my produce shopping (online) during the week with local farmers and pick it up on weekend. Mmmmm, tomatoes, blueberries, summer squash, butter beans and lemon cucumbers.

Steve's Birthday Party

The party went off with only a slight hitch...running out of chips at the nacho bar. Thankfully, Keshari made a chip run to Kroger for me.

Keshari enjoying a margarita.

The improvised nacho cheese dispenser worked great: a #10 can of cheddar cheese sauce, grandma's crock pot, and a condiment pump along with a variety of add-ons like beans, salsa, peppers and guacamole.

Improvised nacho cheese warmer.

The kids enjoyed the Sno Cone machine. (I love those flower cups and spoon straws I found online.)

Keep 'em comin'.

All in all, the party was successful, but throwing a party is a lot of work, even for the pets. Here they are post-party.
